(16 December 1867 - 18 January 1951)
She was a Protestant Christian missionary in india who opened an orphanage in India, and served there for 55 years. Along the way, she had authored many books about the missionary work in India. While serving in India, Amy received a letter from a young lady who was considering life as a missionary. She asked Amy, "What is missionary life like?" Amy wrote back saying simply,"Missionary life is simply a chance to die"
Her biography quotes her as saying:
"One can give without loving, but one cannot love without giving."
She used her life, her gifts, her energy, comfort, her health and her safety to rescue little girls from temple prostitution, that no one wanted, to lead them to Jesus, to save them from harm's way. How many of us can be the so-called 'Mother Theresa' of this day and age? It's so tough. But in living such a life, it really is what she said, "... a chance to die..."
