Hot Soup in Iceberg!

Lalala!

This past week has officially marked a whole month of nightshift, once again. Having gone through the 3rd round of nightshifts this year (and it's only July) I decided that some things will be done differently.

In a bid to a healthier lifestyle as much as I can while torturing my innards with jet lag, it disturbs the holy nutritionist in me at the second week of nightshifting to see my colleagues (and one of the bosses) eat instant noodles every night!! Or fast food... or nothing at all.. eeks. ahh! NO!

SO, this time around after some discussion with fellow night musketeers,  I dug around the house and found my dad's old slow cooker he used when he was overseas, just nice for 3 persons.

THE NEXT NIGHT, I brought trusty old Toyomi Slow Cooker to the office while another colleague brought his mum's Tefal sandwich maker.

1st Night! Herbal Chicken Soup and Cheese sandwich galore!

I actually didn't take any photos the first night, the food happened all too suddenly and we gobbled it up without thinking anything else other than how good it tastes and smells. hehehe...

2nd Night! Beef Stew! And Cheese and Ham toasted sandwich! Ok, this time we lasted this much more to take a couple of photos.

Ok the stew turned out to be more like a bit of soup but it was nice! :)

3rd Night! Malaysian style Herbal Bak Ku Teh.  Since we work along BKT street in Singapore, we cheated this night and went down to buy some side dishes and rice to go with our own bak ku teh soup! YUM!

And the awesome thing is, we managed to microwave eggs! The colour was a nice bright yellow and it was not over cooked! Nom nom nom!
Ya I know, I have my reservations about microwaving food but given the very limited ways of cooking food in the office, it just has to make do. I can only pray and hope the school of thought about radiation lingering on in microwaved food isn't true...

4th Night! My colleague went and bought salad and a whole roasted chicken, what a treat we gave ourselves! We provided our own ham and cheese. :) We put half the roasted chicken into our soup and the flavour is just delicious! Chicken Pasta Soup with the thin, fine Angel Hair Pasta, like the Bee Hoon of the chinese noodle.

I just placed the orange juice carton there for effect, so it looks like a food pyramid. :) Like it?

5th Night! We had some leftover beef from the stew and made Beef Stragonoff! Beef Stragonoff is supposed to be more like a gravy but since we are kind of on a soup campaign and in truth, since we added more water, we made it a little bit more soupy. BUT we did add flour for effect to thicken the soup/watery gravy.

We had this spontaneous idea to try make a rosti with potato and cheese on the sandwich maker at the risk of it becoming hard to clean, but we did it anyway. It was pretty decent! Success! :)

That concludes the 1st week of Office Cooking. And as Angela puts it, "Hot Soup in Iceberg!" yeap, that sounds just apt. I shall post week 2's worth of food in a separate blog or this post will be too long!
